OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA/Ole Miss Athletics) — Ole Miss women's tennis head coach Mark Beyers announced Wednesday the addition of Russian standout Santa Shumilina, who has joined the Rebels this semester. She will have to sit out a year and will be eligible to play in January of 2013.

A native of Moscow, Shumilina has been ranked as high as No. 106 in the World Junior ITF Rankings. She played in the main draw of the Junior Wimbledon and Junior U.S. Open in 2010. Shumilina won the Russian National Championship in singles in 2007 and is a winner of several Grade 3 ITF Tournaments in singles and doubles.

"We're extremely excited that Santa has joined our program. She brings a wealth of experience with her having played some of the biggest junior tournaments in the world including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open," Beyers said. "Having a player of her stature around is going to help all the other players as well. We are glad to have her part of our Rebel tennis family, and we're looking forward to seeing her play next year."

The Rebels went 2-0 in Hawaii last week and head to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
