STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA/MSU Athletics) - Mississippi State is ranked No. 21 in the Top 44 countdown of college baseball teams for 2012 compiled by College Sports Madness.
The Bulldogs, who open their 2012 campaign Feb. 17-19 with a three-game home series against Washington State, are picked fifth in the SEC. Four additional teams from the Southeastern Conference will be included among the internet publication’s top 20 being revealed a team at a time leading up to the Feb. 17 opening of the 2012 college baseball season.
The rankings also have Arkansas at No. 24, Georgia at No. 29 and Ole Miss at No. 34.
Mississippi State received the 28th-most votes in the 2012 ESPN/USA TODAY preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll and was picked 34th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason rankings.
Mississippi State continues its preseason practice this week and resumes its afternoon scrimmage schedule with intrasquad games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All of the practice sessions at Dudy Noble Field are open to the public.
