STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - A Mississippi State spokesperson confirmed to WTVA on Thursday afternoon that linebacker Chris Hughes is no longer a member of the football team. The spokesperson said that no further comment would be made by the team on Thursday.
The 6'1", 225-pound senior had been suspended indefinitely by the team on Friday.
AL.com reports that Mobile Police Corporal Christopher Levy says that Hughes was charged with domestic violence for the third time in three years after an incident on May 24th. According to the report, Hughes is alleged to have struck his girlfriend multiple times in the face.
Per the Mobile Sheriff's Office's online records, Hughes is currently in jail after being booked on May 24th.
Hughes had 31 tackles in 2012.
