BOSTON (WTVA/Celtics.com) – The Boston Celtics announced Monday that they have signed forward Jarvis Varnado. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Varnado, a 6’9” forward, appeared in 10 games for the Sioux Falls SkyForce of the NBA Development League this season averaging 14.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and an NBADL high 3.9 blocks in 30.5 minutes per game.
Varnado was originally drafted by the Miami Heat with the 41st pick in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft out of Mississippi State. Varnado left Mississippi State as the NCAA’s all-time leader in blocked shots.
With the Bulldogs, Varnado became just the second college basketball player ever to score over 1,000 points, grab over 1,000 rebounds and block over 500 shots in a career.
He has played overseas in Europe with Carmatic Pistoia of the Italian second division, Hapoel Jerusalem B.C. in Israel and Pallancestro Virtus Roma of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A.
Varnado will wear #41. The Celtics roster now stands at 15.
