TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The installation of the blue turf is underway at Tupelo High School.
Hellas Construction is handling the project. Not only will Renasant Field be blue, the track that surrounds the turf is being painted gold.
Tupelo head football coach Trent Hammond says estimates vary, but the blue turf installation should be complete in roughly ten days, and possibly fourteen days, depending on the weather.
"It's kind of relieving to see the turf show up, and see it start being put down, because it's kind of been a long process," Hammond said. "You hear about it, hear about it, hear about it, but the day it finally arrives, and they start to roll it out, it makes you feel good. It's not done today, but it sure does make us feel better that it's here."
THS' home opener is Aug. 29 vs. Center Hill. In the meantime, the Golden Wave visit Itawamba AHS in a jamboree this coming Friday before opening the regular season at Lafayette County on Aug. 22.
Starkville, Oxford and Corinth High Schools are also installing artificial turf at their football stadiums.
