BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (WTVA/BMC Athletics) – Whittney Gee, a hard-hitting shortstop for the Vardaman Lady Rams, has signed a softball scholarship with Blue Mountain College.
“This is a big signing for us,” said BMC coach Kevin Barefield. “Whittney is one of the best young players in North Mississippi and we’re excited that she’s going to join our program. She’s solid on both offense and defense, and we expect her to contribute right away.”
As a junior at Vardaman, Gee had a .537 batting average and an .815 slugging percentage. She had 17 doubles, 5 triples, one home run and 27 stolen bases. Gee also had an .844 fielding average with only 7 errors in 31 games.
"Their Christian environment, it just felt really welcoming and everyone there seems like great people," Gee told WTVA. "[Signing with them] feels, surreal."
"Whittney's an outstanding athlete," said Barefield. "She's been a great shortstop here at Vardaman, and we're really excited about what she can do with a bat and how she can help us defensively as well."
