IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - Tishomingo County boys' basketball head coach Mike Cartwright has stepped down from the position, Tishomingo County School District Communications Director Joel Robertson confirmed to WTVA.

Robertson says that the decision was made entirely by Cartwright, and that Cartwright will remain as a teacher and coach at the school. Cartwright also coaches the boys' and girls' cross country teams as well as the boys' golf team, in addition to being a teacher at the school.

The Braves are (1-8) on the season and have dropped eight games in a row, including a 62-29 loss on Tuesday to Alcorn Central.

Iuka Middle School coach Shannon Edmondson will "complete the year" as the Braves' head coach, according to Robertson.

Cartwright did not immediately respond to WTVA's request for comment.
