BELDEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- For the second consecutive year, a TCPS Student has won the Wendy’s High School Heisman for Mississippi.

Mary Cockrell of Tupelo Christian Preparatory School in Belden is being recognized as the 2013 state winner in the Wendy's High School Heisman program for her success on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman distinguished panel of judges takes over now that the state winners have been announced.

Program judges include representatives from the worlds of education, business, and sports along with former college Heisman Memorial Trophy Award winners and former national Wendy’s High School Heisman winners.

The judges carefully review nomination forms and vote on the National Finalists and National Winners.

Cockrell's award now makes this back-to-back years that TCPS has had a state award winner for Mississippi following TCPS’ Evan Talton, who won the State Award for the Boy’s in 2012.
