TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - It's been over a week since the Tupelo 49ers won the state American Legion baseball championship.

The team will get to host next summer's state tournament, but they're not thinking that far ahead. The 49ers will play in the upcoming Mid-South Regional Tournament in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

The 49ers will play Jefferson City, Missouri, in its first-round game on Thursday. The winner of the eight-team event will advance to the national tournament.

"Any time you have the opportunity to create one of those moments you're gonna remember for a long time, it is neat, and I'm very proud for this group," said head coach Kirk Presley. "The opportunity to go play in a regional tournament, against seven other state champions, will be another really good experience for them."

The 49ers left for regionals on a charter bus Wednesday morning from Tupelo City Hall.
