Woodard commits to Mississippi State basketball

The Columbus forward is the state's top prospect.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Columbus High School forward Robert Woodard announced his commitment to Mississippi State's basketball program on Tuesday night.

Woodard, the state's No. 1 recruit, was the 2017 Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year in Mississippi, averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds. He chose the Bulldogs over Alabama and Memphis.

Woodard made his announcement prior to Columbus' game with Starkville. He scored 21 points as the Falcons defeated the Yellowjackets 64-62.

Woodard's father played for MSU from 1987-1990.
