SHREVEPORT, La. (WTVA/BMC Athletics) - Blue Mountain College Baseball defeated LSU-Shreveport 13-10 on Friday, winning two games in the best-of-three series to open the season.
BMC (2-1) started off the game with a four-run 1st inning against the #26 team in the nation, knocking out LSU-Shreveport starting pitcher Cade Gibson.
The Toppers' onslaught at the plate continued as they scored another run in the 2nd, and five more in the 3rd, capped by a grand slam from Caleb Leach (SR/Lakeland, FL).
To round out the win, the Toppers stole seven bases on the day, led by Miciah Heard (SR/Thaxton, MS) who had two.
Josh Letson (SR/Birmingham, AL) picked up the pitching win for BMC, going four full innings, striking out two and giving up seven runs on 10 hits.
Mason Woolridge (JR/West Lauderdale, MS) came on in the 5th, eventually striking out four. David Torres (SR/Maracaibo, Venezuela) sealed the deal on the hill for the Toppers, going two innings and striking out three.
When it was all over, BMC had amassed 13 hits on the day, with Austin Looker (SR/Lakeland, TN) and Heard notching three of them.

"This was a great series win for us against one of the best teams in the nation," BMC head coach Curt Fowler said. "They made a pretty good run at us late in the game, but our guys were resilient and held on. This is a good measuring stick for us, because we knew if we could win this series, we should be able to compete against the best teams in the nation. I'm very pleased with our performance today, and I expect us to continue to improve from here."
BMC returns to the diamond next Friday as they host William Woods (Mo.) in a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. at Topper Field.
