WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WTVA) - Water Valley residents voted on a new ward 2 alderman position on Tuesday in a special election.

Two people were vying for the slot left vacant when Alderman-elect Ray Hawkins could not assume his post without leaving his job with the University Police Department at Ole Miss.

On Tuesday officials say the unofficial results show Fred White won with 93 votes compared to 58 votes for Kathleen Hawkins.

White had previously served as alderman for nearly 20 years before being defeated in the municipal elections earlier this year.

As of Tuesday night 15 affidavit ballots still had to be counted, but that number should not affect the outcome of the election.
