WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Water Valley authorities are investigating the Thursday burglary of a city pharmacy.

Police Chief Mike King tells an unknown number of persons broke into Turnage Drug Store on North Main Street sometime in the early morning hours.

King says the group cut the alarm system and pried open doors on the front and rear of the business.

He says an undetermined amount of narcotics were taken in the break-in.

Investigators are looking into a possible connection between the burglary and the theft of a vehicle in the nearby town of Oakland the same night.

King says this is the latest in what is believed to be part of a statewide burglary ring targeting pharmacies.

Water Valley police are working with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and surrounding law enforcement agencies to try and solve the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Water Valley Police Department at (662) 473-2933.
