WASHINGTON (WTVA) — The federal government is helping some local farmers dealing with the drought.

Farmers in Lafayette and Yalobusha counties can apply for low interest loans to cover any drought-related damages or losses.

They have eight months to file.

The financial aid is actually being made available for farmers and ranchers in 10 Mississippi counties, primarily in the northwest part of the state.

The other counties are Coahoma, DeSoto, Marshall, Panola, Quitman Tallahatchie, Tate and Tunica.
