LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Winston County could be the future home of an oil refinery and thousands of jobs it would create.
Winston County Economic Development Executive Director Gerald Mills says SNC Energy recently made a presentation about locating the facility on property in the county.
He says the group did not ask for any county assistance during the presentation.
The SNC Energy website says the company is headquartered in Winston County and has offices in Neshoba County.
The company says construction on the refinery is scheduled to begin in 2013 and will begin operations in 2014.
The location of the production facility would be on 300 acres of land in the southern part of Winston County.
The website also states they expect the facility to provide 5,200 jobs and produce 100,000 to 120,000 barrels of crude per day.
SNC officials say it will be the first refinery built in the U. S. in 35 years.
Mills says the potential for job creation is good news, but he has "guarded optimism" when it comes to the project.
