LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- The National Weather Service named Louisville as a StormReady Community.
Emergency management officials shared the news with Louisville city leaders this week.
StormReady identifies communities who have the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property before and during a severe weather event.
National Weather Service officials say Americans live in the most severe weather-prone country on Earth.
90 percent of all presidentially declared disasters in the United States are weather related.
Louisville is the 15th municipality in the state to receive the designation.
25 counties and four universities in the state has also been declared StormReady by the NWS.
