LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- The fire chief for the city of Louisville has resigned.

Mayor Will Hill tells WTVA.com Terry Johnson submitted his resignation to the board of aldermen Tuesday.

The board voted to accept his resignation during a meeting Tuesday night.

Hill says Johnson's resignation was effective immediately.

Johnson joined the department in March of 2010 after serving as a firefighter with the Bay St. Louis Fire Department.

He has 22 years of experience as a fireman.

Hill says the city will post the position soon and plans to work with the Mississippi State Fire Academy in their search.
