WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Webster County Sheriff Tim Mitchell tells WTVA.com that a youth who apparently drowned Monday afternoon has been identified as 15-year-old Jason Allen Modzellewskie.

Sheriff Mitchell says they were called around 4 p.m. to a pond in the Clarkson community.

Mitchell says a group of teenagers was swimming when one went underwater and didn't resurface.

Someone nearby heard the children yelling and was able to locate the youth in the water.

Mitchell said by the time he was pulled out, the young teenager had been underwater anywhere from 10 to 13 minutes.

"When we arrived on scene, they had him out, giving him CPR," Sheriff Mitchell said. "Of course, nothing could be done. They couldn't bring him back. It's a tragic situation."

The pond in question is quite popular with those who live in the community, Mitchell said.

The body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
