GRENADA COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Florida man charged with capital murder in the death of a Eupora police officer is on trial for armed robbery in the incident that prompted the deadly police pursuit.
Jury selection began this morning in the trial of Brandon Johnson, 27 of Orlando, Florida.
Johnson was one of three people investigators say was involved in the robbery of a check cashing business in Grenada in October of 2013.
Shortly after the robbery, a pursuit began after a state trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over.
Eupora Officer Keith Crenshaw was hit and killed while deploying spike strips on Highway 82 in Webster County in an attempt to end the pursuit.
Two of the suspects, Frank Maye, 33, and Nathaniel Robinson, 22, of Orlando, died after the car struck a utility pole a shot distance away from where Crenshaw died.
In addition to the armed robbery charge, Johnson faces trial at a later date on capital murder charges in the officer's death.
Jury selection is expected to end today and testimony is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning in Grenada County Circuit Court.
