Local bands do well at state championships

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi High School Activities Association crowned band champions in its six classifications over the weekend.

Ripley High School was the only north Mississippi school to bring home the championship, claiming to top prize in Class 3A.

The top five schools in Class 3A were from North Mississippi and included Booneville, Alcorn Central, South Pontotoc, and Kossuth.

Here is a list of the champions and the highest finish by north Mississippi schools in each classification:

Class 1A - Stringer - Champion, Ethel - Second Place

Class 2A - Union - Champion,  Eupora - Second Place

Class 3A - Ripley - Champion, Booneville - Second Place

Class 4A - Lewisburg - Champion, Louisville - Fifth Place

Class 5A - Pearl - Champion, Saltillo - Fifth Place

Class 6A - Petal - Champion, Tupelo - Eighth Place
