CHOCTAW, Miss. (WTVA) -- An accident that claimed the life of a Webster County man early Wednesday morning is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

According to investigators, around 6:00 a.m., on Highway 9 at Bluff Springs Road in Choctaw County, George Walker, 46, was driving south when his car left the roadway.

After the crash, a passing motorist stopped to pick Walker up so he could go and make a phone call.

Walker was then brought back and dropped off at the scene.

Authorities say while he was waiting, Walker entered the highway attempting to flag down traffic and was struck by a south bound 2011 Ford Ranger driven by Charles Pepper, 54, from Belefontaine.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
