NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Union County Coroner Mark Golding has resigned.
WTVA News was first to report he was under invesigation by the state auditor's office over allegations of false pretense.
On Thursday, the auditor's office confirmed Golding is being investigated for filing false claims and invoices with the county over death investigations and was paid for the claims.
The news release says investigators seized a $5,000 check from the Union County Circuit Clerk's office Wednesday as evidence.
Audit investigators say Golding resigned earlier today.
District Attorney Ben Creekmore said the investigation is continuing and any information uncovered will be presented to a grand jury.
