UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Union County NAACP held a fundraiser Saturday night in the Wallerville community.
The purpose of the program was to raise money for scholarships and to encourage those in attendance to get out and vote.
"I intend to challenge the young people to get out and be active and to vote. And participate in activities governing them. I also intend to express appreciation to those warriors who have been carrying on and fighting for so many years," said keynote speaker Constance Slaughter-Harvey.
Harvey is the first African-American female to receive a law degree from the University of Mississippi.
