NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) — Students are getting in some practice for a performance next week with legendary blues musician Sam Mosley of New Albany.

The group will perform with Mosley of the legendary Mosley and Johnson duo when a student produced documentary is shown at the high school.

The students are putting the finishing touches on the documentary which they shot, edited and produced through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.

Teacher Lee Ann Thompson said, "I'm a huge fan of documentaries so I've always wanted to do that myself.  I thought it would be cool to learn how to do it with students."

Student Rachel Lenoir said, "Many people really don't know him. We want the world to know Mr. Sam Mosley as we know him."

The students recently interviewed Mosley along with others to tell his life's story.

The documentary premiere will include a set of songs by Mosley that features student backup singers and musicians.

Student Sam Hill said, "He teaches us how to have fun on stage but also how to be disciplined when you're on stage.  He says not to have too much fun or go too crazy."

Student Kylin Beaty said, "I've always played guitar but never had any experience with his style.  I have loved it so much that I try to incorporate it wherever I can into my music."

The documentary and performance is being billed as a sort of red carpet event for the entire community.

Teacher Lee Ann Thompson said, "As this has evolved into such a big event the students have learned about planning.  There's so much we've had to figure out."

The premiere is next Thursday night at New Albany High School.

The documentary premiere and performance by Sam Mosley is free to the public.

It starts at 7:00 p.m.

Donations will be accepted to fund a project that helps less fortunate students in their school.
