UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A member of the Union County Sheriff's Department remains hospitalized after being injured Friday night in a motorcycle accident.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said dispatcher Chris Roaton, 27, was driving along Highway 30 in the Campbell community when a pickup truck got too close to Roaton's motorcycle.

Trooper Ray Hall with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 9 p.m.

Edwards said the handlebars of the bike hit the truck's mirror and caused the motorcycle to flip.

Roaton was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo as a precaution.

Edwards said the accident broke Roaton's leg and required surgery.
