NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Union County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury following an investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14.

The indictment charges Joseph Patrick Kirwan, 68, with one count of sexual exploitation of children.

Court documents accuse him of forcing a minor to pose for sexually explicit images.

New Albany police officers arrested Kirwan in December after a report about incidents involving a minor.

They say the incidents took place in New Albany and in Texas.

Investigators say they uncovered child pornography during a search of the home.

New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson told WTVA.com in December Kirwan would be charged with molesting and sexual battery by his department and would face additional charges in Texas.

Kirwan is currently in the custody of U. S. Marshals pending an arraignment and detention hearing on Thursday in Oxford.
