RIPLEY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Former Union County Coroner Mark Golding has pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud over filing false death investigations with the county for reimbursement.
The plea was entered in Tippah County Circuit Court Monday afternoon.
Golding resigned in June after the Mississippi Auditor's Office began an investigation into the false claims.
The state auditor's office has ordered Golding to repay nearly $400,000 as a result of the investigation.
He agreed to the guilty plea before the case could be presented to a grand jury.
Following the guilty plea, the judge sentenced Golding to serve 10 years, six suspended, meaning he will serve four years prison and five years probation.
He also ordered Golding's retirement account to be frozen.
We will have more on today's hearing and reaction to the plea tonight on WTVA News at Six.
