Man wanted in cockfighting investigation in custody

MYRTLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- A man wanted by Union County authorities as part of an investigation into narcotics and cockfighting has been arrested.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says Oscar Rodriguez was captured by U. S. Marshals in Elkhart, Indiana Monday.

Rodriguez was the subject of an investigation into the sale of narcotics in Union County when he assaulted a law enforcement officer and ran from a home on County Road 67 near Myrtle on August 2.

Investigators found cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine during a search of the residence as well as signs of a cockfighting operation.

Edwards says Rodriguez will face numerous charges including possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, assault on a law officer and other charges.

Edwards says they intend to extradict Rodriguez back to Mississippi.
