JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- ACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Union County man serving three life sentences for sexual battery.

Johnny Young, Jr., 39, was found guilty of three counts of sexual battery by a Union County Circuit Court jury in September of 2009.

Court documents say the victim was under 14 years of age.

Young had asked the appellate court to overturn his conviction, including claims the judge was wrong is his decision on the admission or exclusion of certain evidence during the trial.

He also says the evidence did not support the verdict or sentence handed down.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the conviction in October of 2011.

The Mississippi Supreme Court agreed to review the case earlier this year.

On Thursday, they issued a split decision upholding the conviction and sentence.
