NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Memphis man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a New Albany bank on Thursday.

Police Chief David Grishem says Marlon D. Thomas, 39, of Memphis made an initial appearance in Union County Justice Court Friday afternoon.

Thomas is charged with robbery.

He was arrested about an hour after the robbery of the BancorpSouth branch on Highway 15 South.

Authorities say Thomas handed the teller a note, but never displayed a weapon during the robbery.

He left the bank and headed toward Memphis on Highway 78.

Thomas was apprehended after he stopped the car near Potts Camp and attempted to run away on foot.

Bond has been set at $250,000.
