JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Transportation has issued a traffic advisory for Highway 78 in Union County.
MDOT officials say they will have to stop traffic at times on the stretch of roadway between Highway 15 and Highway 30 in New Albany.
The stoppages will be to allow crews to make repairs to the roadway because of recent wet and cold weather.
Officials say the water has seeped into fissures in the roadway and the pavement to break-up.
The result is dangerous potholes in the open travel lanes in the area where a widening project is already underway.
MDOT officials say drivers will pass on the inside lane of the highway.
They advise motorist to seek alternate routes if possible and drive carefully through the work area.
