JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Work on a section of Highway 78 in Union County is just over a third of the way complete.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation awarded the contract to Hill Brothers Construction Company to bring the six mile section of Highway in New Albany up to interstate standards.

North District Commissioner Mike Tagert says the project is 35 percent complete.

The $19 million bridge repair and reconstruction project is expected to be completed in November of 2013.

The work is part of the effort to rename the highway Interstate 22.
