NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Sheriff Jimmy Edwards is deep in the trenches of his evidence room and there he finds a load of weapons soon to be on their way out.

With help from the men, each will be checked and ready for new hands.

"Just keep trying to work hard and keep the guns out of the wrong people's hands," Investigator David Garrison said.

Sixty-seven guns that are all sizes shapes and calibers have been catching a lot of dust over the years, but not anymore.

Each has a story to tell.

"We look back. We can remember who we seized them from and what was going on at the time-whether it be drug sales, a meth lab or possession of a firearm by a convicted felon," Sheriff Edwards said.

One such story begins two miles east of New Albany in Beacon Hill.

Investigators thought they were on a routine call.

We went on an unrelated incident-really to check on a horse to be honest with you," Garrison added.

Garrison says they couldn't help but notice some activity in the background. They smelled marijuana.

"We ended up seizing 4-5 guns, a bunch of dope and marijuana," Garrison said.

They even seized a vehicle which now sits among others at the Union County Fairgrounds.

They are ready for auction-an event hoped to raise much needed funds for Union County.

"It helps to get things that we need that we don't have to ask the Board of Supervisors to provide us in our budget," Sheriff Edwards added.

The board of supervisors is also putting equipment up for auction.

They have a load of heavy equipment and vehicles ready to go.

The auction will be held Saturday, March 1 at the Union County Fairgrounds.
