HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVA) — A man from Iuka is dead after he apparently drowned in Pickwick Lake.

The Hardin County, Tenn., Fire Department says 54-year-old Roger Deaton went in the water on the Mississippi side of the lake near the Tennessee line late Sunday morning.

According to bystanders, Deaton jumped out of a boat to retrieve his hat, which had gone into the water.

Fire Chief Melvin Martin says the man somehow got separated from the boat, and when people in the boat finally caught up with him, he had already gone underwater.

The body was recovered Tuesday morning on the Tennessee side of the lake at Yellow Creek.
