IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - The national Hot Rod Power Tour made a rest stop in Iuka on Wednesday.

Car enthusiasts are traveling the country in all different types of new and classic cars, and Tishomingo County was just one stop along the way.

Paul Morris with Wheels of Northeast Mississippi Car Club said, "You'll have everything from new Shelby GT Mustangs to new Camaros to street rods. Vehicles of all descriptions will be coming in."

These people come from around the country who take part in the tour.

It started in Texas.
Tour participant Ron Earley from Virginia said, "My son called six or eight months ago and said let's take a hot rod motor tour. I asked what is it. He told me and I said that we'd go. Here we are. We're retired so we do what we want."

Local residents heard about the tour coming through the area and made sure they were there to both greet the drivers and get a glimpse of these sharp machines.

Jeff Wadkins of Tishomingo said, "I enjoy it. I've had a few of these cars but nothing like these right here."

This is more than just a rest stop for drivers.

It's also an opportunity for local officials to showcase Iuka and Tishomingo County.

Tourism officials were on hand passing out information to these visitors who come from all over the United States.

Theresa Cutshall with Tishomingo County Tourism said, "Some of them have picked up retiree brochures. We might gain some retirees from this. That would be great."

The visitors say although their time in Mississippi was brief, they're leaving with a good impression.

Marilyn Earley of Virginia said, "We love it. We love every bit of it. The people here have been so friendly."

Around 4,000 vehicles are on the Hot Rod Power Tour which travels through half a dozen states before ending at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
