JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Mississippi Supreme Court has overturned Michelle Byrom's capital murder conviction and has ordered a new trial.

Byrom was sentenced to die for the shooting death of her husband at his Iuka home in 1999.

The order calls for the new trial to take place in Tishomingo County Circuit Court.

Justices also ordered that a judge other than Thomas Gardner preside over the new trial.

Gardner handled the trial in 2000 that led to Byrom's death sentence.
