BELMONT, Miss. (WTVA) -- Now, this is what we call a big surprise.
Belmont police were not exactly on the invitation list for a reported weekend pot party in town.
Investigator Donald Ray Thomas says they have recovered quite a bit of items that were used to smoke marijuana from an apartment in the north end of town.
Thomas was responding to a complaint about loud music when he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from an open window.
He says 9 people were sitting on the floor with drug paraphernalia in the center.
Thomas says he knocked on the door to investigate.
"They were shocked. They were shuffling around trying to hide their contraband and their paraphernalia, but I'd already with my own eyes observed what was going on," Thomas said.
Thomas says three of the people were 15 years old, and the oldest was 26.
The investigator says items found at the scene also include scales and bags commonly used to sale drugs.
