BAY SPRINGS LAKE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two popular beaches at Bay Springs Lake have been reopened after the water level dropped over the weekend.

Park ranger Chad Pearson said recent heavy rainfall in Alabama more than likely contributed to the higher water levels that led to the closing of Old Bridge and Piney Grove Beach over the weekend.

USACE officials typically close the recreational areas whenever flooding occurs because it raises the deep end of the swimming areas to as much as 9 or 10 feet.

Typically, the depth ends at 6 feet.

The closing was expected to remain in effect until mid-week, but Corps officials Monday announced the beaches had reopened.
