CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Ripley teenager drowned while swimming in an Alcorn County creek Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Charles Rinehart says Brandon Wayne Davis, 16, was swimming with his brother in Hurricane Creek when he went under around 3 p.m.

The area was located off County Road 600 between Walnut and Corinth.

Deputies and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks crews responded to the scene.

Davis's body was recovered around 5:30 p.m.

Rinehart says Davis' brother told investigators Brandon used a rope swing to go into the water, surfaced, then went under and never came up.
