RIPLEY, Miss. (WTVA) -- It's a hard lesson learned and one that is usually deadly.
The worst thing anyone can do to a downed power line is to go anywhere near one.
Emergency responders often find themselves doing just that.
That's a scenario where learning what to do can save their life as well.
Tippah Electric Power Association officials will host a demonstration this week for first responders.
They expect some 150 first responders to show up for the event which will include a realistic display of what they call an arc flash.
"I know first responders. Their first thing they want to do is save a life, but we want you to keep your life safe while you are doing that," Tippah Electric Power Association General Manager Tim Smith said.
The demonstration is set for Thursday, September 6 at 6 p.m. at the Tippah County Fairgrounds.
It is open to all emergency responders.
