ITTA BENA, Miss. (WTVA/AP) - Mississippi Valley State University has moved interim men's basketball coach Chico Potts into the position permanently.
University officials announced Monday that Potts is now the Delta Devils' ninth head coach in school history.
Interim Athletic Director Donald Sims says Potts' interview was impressive and he has a plan to help students excel academically and athletically.
Potts was promoted following a four-year stint as an assistant under Sean Woods, who left for Morehead State in May.
Potts was the primary assistant coach on last year's squad that earned Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles along with an NCAA Tournament appearance. The team also held the nation's second-longest win streak (17 games) during the 2011-12 season.
