OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Booneville man has pleaded guilty to federal charges he attempted to meet a teenage girl for sex.

Michael Wayne Thornton, 31, entered the guilty plea to enticement of a child during a hearing in U. S. District Court in Oxford Friday morning.

Thornton was arrested as part of an internet sex crime sting by Tupelo police in January of 2013.

The federal indictment says he arranged to meet a detective posing as a 15-year-old girl for sex and was arrested after driving to Tupelo.

Thornton remains in the custody of the U. S. Marshal Service.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
