BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- In Defense of Animals, the international animal protection organization that operates Hope Animal Sanctuary in Grenada, has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever poured a hot liquid on two young puppies in Booneville.

On the morning of Thursday, April 4, Cocoa and Smokey returned to their guardian's home with severe burns on their backs.

They were immediately rushed to a veterinarian who determined that the puppies likely had a scalding hot liquid poured on them.

Their burn injuries were so severe that they are still at the veterinary clinic receiving care, but are expected to make a full recovery.

“The cold-bloodedness of this terrible crime indicates what a danger this person is to all of us,” said Doll Stanley, Director of Hope Animal Sanctuary. “Someone knows who did this, and he or she will be serving the entire community by stepping forward.” Stanley added that studies have repeatedly shown, and the FBI and other law enforcement agencies agree, that a person who commits cruelty to animals very often moves on to commit acts of violence against people, especially when the cruelty to animals goes unpunished.

IDA urges anyone with information about this brutal attack to call the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office at 662-728-6232 or IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary at 662-809-4483.
