BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Teams like Biggersville and Baldwyn have already secured titles and are planning huge celebrations as others play for titles Friday night.

Even at a community college girls' fast pitch softball game Friday afternoon in Booneville, the hearts and minds of Booneville fans were on their boys' basketball team.

"I hope they do their very best. And I hope they all leave it [on the court] where it's supposed to be," said John Butler, a student at Northeast Community College.

"I guess northeast Mississppi is just basketball country."said Booneville Alderman Wilda Pounds.

That seems to be the case as Biggersville and Baldwyn high school boys' teams have already brought home state titles.

Both Booneville and Corinth were up next to keep the parade of titles to north Mississippi going strong.

As game time drew near this afternoon, there was a buzz here in the city of Booneville that the boys' basketball team could bring home the golden ball.

The school's marquee carried the sentiment of just about everyone, including those at one local convenience store where all eyes were on the game when they tipped off.

"Booneville is bringing it home, bringing home the gold," said Michele Braudway of Booneville.

"I wish them the best of luck," said Caleb Winfield, a student at Northeast Community College. "I'm not going to be able to make it, so I wish them the best of luck."
