Mississippi Bureau of Investigation investigates inmate death

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation into the death of an inmate the Prentiss County jail over the weekend.

Sheriff Randy Tolar says around 11:15 a.m., Marterious Jerrod Swinney, 28, of Corinth collapsed while talking on the phone.

He says Swinney was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville where he was pronounced dead.

Tolar says Swinney was being held for Drug Court and had been booked into jail Friday morning.

An autopsy was expected to be performed Monday in Jackson.
