OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- Attorney's for a Booneville man are asking a federal judge to grant a mental examination for his client.

Michael Thornton, 30, is facing a federal indictment for enticement of a child for lustful purposes.

Authorities say he was arrested in January by Tupelo police after arranging to meet a detective posing as a 15-year-old girl for sex.

In the motion filed by his attorney, Thornton violated conditions of his release on bond and has been in the Lafayette County Adult Detention Center since August 2.

His attorney claims Thornton experienced multiple episodes that raise concerns about his health and well-being.

The motion say it could have an impact on his ability to stand trial, enter a plea or prepare a defense.
