PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- Pontotoc County and Lee County authorities continue to search Wednesday night for a man who walked away from a work detail earlier in the day.

Sheriff Leo Mask says they are looking for Gary Brooke Sneed, 32, who was part of a work program when he disappeared.

The Pontotoc County sheriff's department says a woman identified as Holly M. Morris is traveling with Sneed.

Authorities say they believe she helped him with an escape vehicle.

Sheriff Mask tells WTVA.com that Sneed is believed to be traveling in a black Ford Taurus.

Pontotoc County authorities at one point were searching in the Troy community near Pontocola Road.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says his deputies are searching in the Palmetto area of Lee County.

He says Sneed apparently stole a car in the area, then abandoned it, and attempted to steal a van parked at a local church.

Johnson says area residents have positively identified that Sneed was in the area.

WTVA has a crew following the search and we will have more details as they become available.
