TVA dedicates new electricity generator

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- An new source of electric power generation has been dedicated in Pontotoc County.

The facility at the Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority landfill converts methane created by the decomposing trash into electricity.

The system can generate nearly one megawatt of power that is sold for use in the TVA grid in Northeast Mississippi.

Officials say the systam will generate enough green power to provide service to 600 homes.

TVA officials say the generator will help keep costs lower for Mississippi ratepayers.
