PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Pontotoc County woman has died after a collision on Highway 41 Saturday morning.

Trooper Ray Hall with the Mississippi Highway Patrol says it happened near the power substation on the highway at approximately 5:30 a.m.

An 18-wheeler had become disabled and was blocking the southbound lane of the highway.

Hall said it appeared Joe A. Martin, 51, of Pontotoc, struck the rear portion of the 18-wheeler on the highway.

Martin was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with serious injuries.

His mother, Betty Martin, 82, of Pontotoc, died at the scene.

No one was operating the 18-wheeler when the crash took place.
