BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Christopher Stark said he walked to the end of his driveway Monday to pick up his son from the bus stop when he found a pipe bomb-like device near his trash can.
Stark's wife said they've been on edge since finding it.
"It makes me scared to even pick up my trash," Christopher Stark's wife, Meredith, said.
Christopher said he immediately called the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department, but it's what he said he saw on the device that really concerned him.
"On the label, it was white, and it appeared to say 'Obama Dumb' on it," Stark said.
The sheriff's department and county emergency management were the first to arrive.
"We weren't sure what it was," Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask said. "That is the reason we called the people that's experienced in this. All we could do is secure the area until they arrived."
After detonating the device, it was sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for testing.
Stark said he thinks it was left for him and his family.
"As far as I know, we're the only ones in the area that support Obama, and this was an anti-Obama device," Stark said. "So I'm assuming that we were the target."
He and his wife have Obama stickers on their car and said they are used to receiving negative comments from people because of them.
They said this time was different.
"If it is a prank, it's not a good prank, that's for sure," Stark said. "So I've been told to take things like this seriously. It's better to be safe than sorry."
Despite this discovery, Stark and his wife said they will keep the stickers on their car.
